English: Digitally restored and enhanced image of the first edition cover for F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby (1925). The book's cover art by illustrator Francis Cugat was first published in April 1925; hence, the cover art resides in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1926. Furthermore, any mechanical scans/photocopies of the cover likewise reside in the public domain as they do not qualify for independent copyright protection.
