English: The display celebrates the centenary of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID). The floral clock was first planted in 1903 by the then Parks Superintendent, Mr McHattie. It has a circumference of 36ft and is almost 12ft wide. The hands measure almost 11ft and 5ft in length. When bearing plants they weigh approx 80lbs and 50lbs each. The original clock motor, from a turret clock in the Fife coastal village of Elie, is still in place in the plinth of the statue of Allan Ramsay, but has been superseded by a more modern motor that is wound daily. The planting of the clock takes three men up to three weeks, using approximately 24,000 bedding plants. One man then takes responsiblity for its upkeep for the rest of the season.
