Youssef Ezz El-Din is an Arab writer, thinker and poet from Egypt He was born on Sha'ban 23 1332 AH/ July 17,1914 AD.He graduated from the Faculty of Science from Cairo University, and was appointed as a teaching assistant in it in 1938 AD. His literary inclinations began at a young age, so he wrote at the age ten.Many literary works, as his works exceeded 400 literary works, and he won the State Prize in Egypt for his role in the transformation of radio drama at his hands into high literature, including a drama entitled Wheel of Days in 1940 AD, and many works, including a group of the poor, the unknown tomorrow, the skull, and the lily The poor woman, and Sycosita and others from his early works, and he was the first to write the radio series in Egypt and the Arab world, "The Enemy of Humans" in 1955 AD, then "The Rogue Mamluk", "Asif", "Bitter Honey", "The Lost Day" and "Don't Blame Autumn" And hundreds of fine works, and he is one of the founders of the University of Alexandria, as he asked to transfer it to it when he learned that it was under construction, and he contributed to its construction and continued to combine science and literature until his life.

He is considered an eminent writer who wrote novels, short stories and plays that broke the traditional essay of the Arabic novel, for example “The Facade”, “The Man Who Sold His Head”, “Don’t Blame Autumn”, “The Statue”, “The Eye of the Falcon”, “Three Roses and a Candle”, We Want Life and Other Plays”, a collection of stories “The Night of the Storm” and plays such as “The House and Other Stories”, “Is He a God” and other works He was awarded the State Appreciation Prize in Literature in 1987 AD, and was the first to receive it from outside Cairo, apart from his articles that took the form of weekly columns in Al-Ahram newspaper and he wrote analytical articles in the largest Egyptian and Arab newspapers such as Al-Fajr, Alam Al-Fikr and others.

In 1948, he traveled to England on a study mission and obtained a doctorate. At the same time, Youssef Ezz El-Din did not stop writing. While he was in England, he composed plays broadcast by the British BBC Radio in its third programs, including:

He receved a letter of thanks from British broadcasting corporation, which liked his writing. He continued writing until his last days.In addition Al-haram newspaper published three stories for him after his death.

Furthermore to his full history of stories, poetry and literature a famous arils published many of his articles in Al-Ahram and Al-Akbar newspapers.He has more than a hundred articles in Al-Ahram in fixed sections such as:

  • From the notebook of Youssef Ezz El-Din Issa.
  • With thoughts and imagination.
  • Weekly.

This is in addition to many articles published by many Egyptian and Arab newspapers and magazines, such as the Qatari (Al-Fajr) magazine, and analytical studies in literature and sciences in the (world of thought) magazine, such as "William Faulkner's World", "Jules Verne's Science Fiction" and "The Tragic End of Virginia" Wolf" and "The Ant World", and other articles.

Dr. Youssef was the head of the Story Club, a member of the Supreme Council of Culture, and he is credited with establishing the Department of Theater at the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University, and also established the Department of Zoology at Tanta University.

Dr. Youssef has received many honors and prestigious awards, including:

  • State Appreciation Award in Literature 1986.
  • Medal of Science and Arts, first class, twice.
  • Republic Medal.
  • He was chosen as the best literary figure at the level of the Egyptian Republic for the years 1998 and 1999.
  • Knight of Literature Medal 1999.
  • He passed away in September of 1999.
